Finished kitchen at 20 Mercury Road. This particular job was tricky because the door used to be just to the right of the toaster. In order to effectively use the limited space we had, we had to header the back wall of the house to recess the fridge and move the door to the corner of the room. This new layout left continual counter space and easier accessibility to storage Both views are looking into the kitchen from the living room. In most "cape's" there is a small opening or archway in the wall between the living room and the kitchen. We removed the wall, hung the kitchen ceiling joists to a new microlam header which gave us an 11 foot opening. This opened up the living area and gives a much more spacious feeling. We've also removed the ceiling joists in the adjoining living room and vaulted the ceiling and added dual skylights. Finally, we installed a beautiful new tile floor which blends well into the color scheme and natural maple cabinetry. Cabinets are 42" long to allow maximum storage in such a small kitchen. Recessed lighting provides ample coverage and also a nice warm "wash" of indirect lighting off of the light maple cabinetry. Small touches such as chair rail and wall border dress up this small space and help brighten it upas well as add contrast.
